In my case, cooking is part social/political statement and about getting my hands in the flour--a sensation I've enjoyed since childhood.

As a feminist (meaning, one who feels that men and women are intrinsically equal and should be free to choose their calling in life, be it mother, lawyer, chef, or all of the above and then some), I don't want to lose the community women have developed in the kitchen over thousands of years. I want to embrace it, learn from it, apply it to my life. I see it as a way to redeem a place that has been the site of oppression, and to "make okay" again the act and pleasure of cooking.

So, I don't cook because I must or because I feel like it's my place. I cook because I *choose* to cook and to reclaim for myself the community and wisdom that resides in the kitchen.

I'm inspired by what's on hand and how much time I have or I'll just be craving something. I really like trying out new recipes.

Right now, what inspires me is fresh vegetables. Healthy cooking with lots of herbs and colorful veggies. I have recently lost a lot of weight and I am inspired to eat well but healthy. Just in time for the summer harvests.

I'm a moody cook...lol. All dependent on my mood. What sounds good, what do I have on hand, what will my picky eaters eat ;), what is healthy, what do I have time to make, what is the easiest to clean up (lol...I have to cook and clean)? I draw inspiration from my mom. She cooked comfort foods. TV, blogs, recipe sites, recreating restaurant favorites, findy recipes for picky eaters, etc. It's always interesting when I figure out what's for dinner. But, we always try to eat dinner at the table as a family!
