FM Favorite Giveaway: Magnetic Measuring Spoons

in Uncategorized

Starting today I’m going to periodically do a giveaway of one of my favorite things. Today’s giveaway is a set of magnetic measuring spoons made by Progressive International, Inc.
Last year my mom read about these measuring spoons in Real Simple magazine and decided to order them. I remember her excitedly telling me about them and then finally seeing them for myself. I immediately understood why my mom loved them so much–they were awesome! My mom was sweet enough to share the love and give me my own set. So what is so great about these measuring spoons?

The spoons are a five-piece measuring set with both standard and metric measurements. Magnets in the spoons keep them nested together when not being used. The spoons have a flat base that allow them to rest on the counter without tipping over. The spoons are double ended. One end has a narrow, oblong shaped end that will fit into most spice jars.
The other end is round and great for measuring liquids.
Not only is it nice to have those options, but it also comes in handy if one end gets dirty and then you need to measure out something else.

Not only are these spoons the best measuring spoons I’ve ever used, but they’re cute too! I have an extra set that Fuji Nana has donated for this giveaway and I want one of you to have them! To enter the giveaway I want you to leave me a comment telling me what your favorite kitchen tool or gadget is and why. For a second entry in the giveaway, just leave a second (separate) comment letting me know if you are a Follower or a Subscriber. I will keep the comments open until Sunday, April 5th, 10 pm PST, and announce the winner (using a random number generator) on Monday.

** The contest is now closed.**

Besides my coffee maker, my favorite tools are my Kitchenaid mixer or the Magic Bullet blender.

Do I have to narrow it down to one? I love cookie scoops…no more kids fighting for the largest cookie…and they all bake evenly!

My latest fave tool: Silicone cupcake liners.

The cupcakes pop out perfectly and there’s no paper to fuss with and waste. Best invention ever for cupcakery.

Mandolin slicer. It’s so easy to cut multiple food items to any desired thickness in a uniform fashion.

Also, I like my food processor. I’ve overheated 3 of them so it’s something I get a lot of use out of.

I’m a follower, too…found you via Lollychops :)I don’t have a particular kitchen tool that I love, I am pretty basic and although I have lots of new fangled gadgets, I use my chef’s knife and my grater the most.

These spoons look so cute! What a great idea! Pick my favorite kitchen gadget? Why are you making me pick my favorite kid?! Well my favorite gadget this week is my micro-planer. I’ve never zested so much in my life. :)

My favorite gadget is my computer because there exists an endless supply of recipes on great sites (like yours of course! :-) and my computer also gives me a great playlist of music to make the chores in the kitchen go faster and the fun tasks even more fun as my daughter and I jive!

I love my butter keeper. It is a crock that you fill with butter and then turn upside down and store in about 1/2 inch of water. The water seals the crock and you can keep the butter on the counter where it stays nice and soft without going rancid.

Ooooh, kitchen gadgets!!! Those spoons look great!
My favourite tools in the kitchen are first, a properly sharpened knife; second, my kitchen-aid mixer; third, my zester… should I go on? I still need a mandoline and a dedicated spice grinder… I love kitchen stuff :D

These do look like great measuring spoons. Waaaay better than my pink plastic thingies!

My favorite kitchen gadget is probably my little battery operated milk frother. I don’t use it terribly often but every time I do I just marvel at what a good job it does!

I love my potato ricer, aka spatzle maker. It reminds me of my Oma each time I use it, and it makes the most wonderful mashed potatoes or spatzle.

Does Fuji stalker count as follower x 3? Will that earn me extra Fuji points?

My favorite kitchen gadget is a bright green colander that I got from my gramma. It’s bright bright lime green (did I mention that it’s bright green??).

Every single time I get it out to use it (which seems to be about 2 – 3 times per week).. it makes me think of my gramma. I think that’s what I love it so much. She was the coolest nanny and she was such a good cook. I hope some of her mad cooking skillz are rubbing off on me through her colander. When I think of the hundreds of pounds of pasta that colander strained.. it’s positively crazy!

I think I need to post about this giveaway on my blog too. hehehe.

I’ve fallen in love with my new salad spinner. I get an organic box every week. The salad greens tend to still have lots of fresh Scottish soil on them! Now I get clean, dry salad. Its red too as are virtually all the kitchen gadgets!

I was going to say my favourite kitchen item was an old tablespoon that belonged to my grandmother – worn down on one side from years of stiring over a stove… but then I read the word gadget… so my favourite kitchen gadget would have to be a moulex handed down from my mother. When it comes time to make sauce, puree tomatoes for preserving etc, this gadget is a dream to use. The fact that it comes with a history of sauce making in the family is a bonus. It makes me smile.

My favorite kitchen gadget is my spice rack. It hooks under the cabinet and spins. It also pre-measures spices out for you in 1/4 tsp. increments, so all you have to do is turn the dial to measure. (ex: if you need a full teaspoon, you’d turn the dial 4 times.) It’s so easy to use!

When I first was married my mom gave me a 5×5 in piece of blue rubber. “It’s your boyfriend”, she said. “It’ll do the job for you when your hubby isn’t around.”

It’s a can opener. I use it ALL the time.

That set of magnetic spoons look like a real winner. The gadget in my kitchen drawer that find most useful and unique is my grapefruit knife. It has a curved serrated blade on one end, and a double-bladed one on the other end and makes slicing up a cinch. You just slice the grapefruit in half, slide the curved end around the outer edge, then use the straight, double blade to slice through the membranes to make it into bite size pieces of fruit, grab a plain spoon from the silverware drawer and scoop it out in mouthfuls. Then scrape through a final time and get all the juice. No waste with this tool, and it’s much easier on the fingers than peeling.

My favorite tool has to be the egg white separator. I only use egg whites when cooking for myself, and love watching it seep through like a slimey bunch of slime. My kids like watching too. We’re easily entertained.

My favorite kitchen gadget (other than the rubber thing that opens jars) would be the measuring cups that my Mom gave me when I moved out – the same ones she’d used with me my whole life. They’re plastic and nothing really special except for the memories of every batch of christmas ookies, every birthday cake, the charlotte russe (sp?) my Dad and I made for Mother’s Day …. That blue 1 cup measure is my whole life, really, and I just love seeing it in the drawer. Mom thinks she upgraded to fancy stainless steel, but I still think I have the better measuring cups.

I have a whip that I use to beat eggs with – it has a handle and a spiral thing at the bottom that does a great job. We also just got a new egg slicer. After you slice one way, you can rotate the egg 90 degrees to slice the egg the other way – and it will get all the egg out when you pull up on the platform under the egg. Very cool.

Wow! A lot of great comments! I agree with Anon who said the computer. I spend a little time almost every day perusing kitchen sites. And I have had my eye on the measuring spice containers for a while.

Hmmm. If I had to pick my favorite kitchen gadget, I guess I would have to pick my egg slicer. We eat mushrooms with just about everything. It makes slicing them a breeze and gets them the perfect thickness. I went through several wire slicers before I found one truly sturdy enough to last, then I bought a spare just in case.

This is my first time here, but you won me as a follower with the Blancardi quote at the top of your page and the list of recipes in your open March archive.
