Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year! I was reminded that today was the start of the Chinese New Year festivities when we received a small visitor.
Until 1873, the Japanese New Year was celebrated just as the Chinese New Year is celebrated now (based on the Chinese lunisolar calendar). In 1873, when Japan adopted the Catholic Gregorian calendar system, the first day of January became the official New Year’s Day. Despite the change in dates of celebration, the Japanese New Year is still one of the most important annual holidays in Japan (as it is in China) with its own set of unique customs.
I see that even Keito-chan has been celebrating a bit with Polly.
Are you doing anything special for Chinese New Year? If you forgot, you could always make yourself some decorations: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/acCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&extcat=celebratechinesenewyear
