Mother’s Day was fabulous. Though any day where I wake up to these is fabulous (and in my favorite colors of red, orange, and yellow–well done Mr. Fuji!!).For dinner we drove out to my parents’ house and Mr. Fuji and Fuji Papa cooked Fuji Nana and I a truly gourmet dinner.
It was very fun to have the men cook while the girls got to hang out.

When we heard what we were having I think we raised our eyebrows a bit, but after one bite we were in culinary heaven. Dinner consisted of some french bread, a fabulous green salad,a scrambled egg dish filled with shrimp and veggies,
and Peking duck. I kid you not.
Fuji Papa did a bunch of reading on how to prepare it and ended up with a duck hanging in their bathroom for six hours to dry the skin out (so that it would cook up nice and crispy). He even made the pancakes from scratch by himself.
So you can guess why there might have been some eyebrow raising. But that duck was incredible and the pancakes were delicious. It tasted totally authentic. I could have eaten 100 of those little duck filled pancakes. Just thinking about it makes me salivate!
It was especially fun to have the Peking duck because it was almost exactly 2 years ago that we all were eating it together in Beijing, China, and then again last summer here in California right after we moved back to the US. It’s kind of become our family dish.
For dessert we had chocolate covered strawberries, and a trifle made up of layers of pound cake, English custard, whipped cream, and berries. Total heaven. I would eat that meal over again a thousand times.
It was definitely a great day to be a mom. I was able to eat some fabulous food (which always amounts to a great day), appreciate and enjoy my sweet girls, and spend some time with my own amazing mother.

Glad you had a good mothers day! Heh, I think my mom has that same bowl that the trifle is in.
Now that’s impressive cooking by the gentlemen! I don’t suppose there’s any duck left . . . or any of the trifle?
Tangled Noodle–My dad actually made 2 ducks–one Peking style and the other BBQ (he was worried there wouldn’t be enough meat since the birds were small). The Peking duck is long gone but there is a tiny tiny amount of BBQ’d duck left. Though by tonight… There’s also a teensy weensy bit of trifle left. There was a lot more left yesterday, but we took care of most of it last night! :-)
Can I send my husband over so he can learn to do more then wreck my kitchen? :)
Peking duck looks awesome!
Wow…Very sweet of Mr. Fuji and Papa Fuji. I’m impressed. I’m glad your Mother’s Day went well.
Sounds and looks like you had a great Mother’s Day. I’ve never heard of homemade Peking Duck-go Mr Fuji and Fuji Papa! I wonder what Squirrel and Bug will be cooking together when they’re in the kitchen in a couple of years time…
