Not quite culinary purgatory.

in Uncategorized

Just in case any of you were thinking that everything that comes out of the Fuji kitchen is always a winning yummy dish, I’m here to set the record straight. Although many things do turn out, I still have my share of boring dishes and disasters in the kitchen. Case in point: last night’s dinner. I had a spicy Caribbean potato recipe that I was excited to try. I cooked the dish as the recipe directed and it was blah blah BORING and BLAND! Sigh. In an effort to save the meal I added in some fresh ginger, tomato sauce, and salt. Although the additions saved the meal from culinary purgatory, it still was nothing to write home about.
Mr. Fuji’s choice of head gear post meal was 10 times more interesting…
Last night’s meal was definitely a reminder that cooking is a constant learning and discovery process. Although a failed dish can be a bummer, it also helps me to appreciate it even more when something is a success!

I made a few “cleaning out the fridge” dishes recently, and my potato gratin LOOKED great, but it tasted very sad and disappointing. Happily it did much better as potato soup next day.

Too bad that recipe wasn’t a winner. We’ve all ventured into purgatory at some point. It happens to all of us! We just posted about cookies that were a hot mess. Anyways, at least you were able to salvage it in the end. It looks like it’s tasty.

I hate when recipes don’t turn out. At least you were able to save it. Love Mr Fuji’s “ears”.

It doesn’t look bad at all. It’s homey, and tasty.

Not quite CULINARY purgatory, but you, Fuji Mama, may be in for purgatory when Fuji Papa sees that you posted that picture of him wearing bunny ears!

It certainly LOOKS tasty! But I appreciate your willingness to tell us about some of your kitchen let-downs. I just try to feed mine to the dog (if he’s hungry enough) and no one else finds out!

Now this is something I can relate to! Thank you for sharing this. Even though I’m sorry for your less than spectacular dinner, it’s good to know my husband isn’t the only one with funny ears!!!
