Why it’s good to have foodie friends.

in Uncategorized

I am currently in Utah with the my mom and the Fujiettes showing off Bug to family and friends. My mom is an English professor and her college is currently on Spring Break. She planned to spend her week off visiting her mom in Utah. Mr. Fuji was going to be out of town, so I decided to take advantage of my mom’s road trip and tag along! On Monday my mom and I met up with a childhood friend, KD, who now lives in Utah. She requested Japanese food and I was happy to oblige. We met up at Sakura, a Japanese restaurant that was casual enough that we didn’t have to worry about showing up with the kiddies.
One of the many things that I love about KD is her adventurous spirit. She is a total foodie, but has not ventured much into the realm of Japanese cuisine, which made our lunch date way more fun! We started out with miso soup and edamame, and then moved on to a variety of rolls.
This was KD’s first time trying soft shell crab, but she jumped right in, even eating one of the end pieces of a roll that had the tempura fried claws sticking out! Good thing she ended up liking it…
We were provided with plenty of entertainment, as Squirrel attempted to master the art of eating with chopsticks,
sent several edamame flying through the air as she was trying to shell them,
and amazed KD with her love for sushi.
Bug was a bit bored with the whole experience,
but KD’s little one stayed awake for the fun
and even let Squirrel sneak in a little kiss.
Not only is it wonderful to share my love of food with a fellow foodie, but I love not being the only person taking pictures of my food. Friends are wonderful, but foodie friends are even better!

Coming Tomorrow: If you like chili then you’ll love this curry!

That was so much fun…I miss you tons! If that was good Japanese food than I know I will be floored by amazing Japanese food! I can’t wait to learn more about making it for myself. xoxo

It’s great that squirrel loves sushi. She’s so cute.

Being with my disney roommates was awesome because they took pictures of food as much as I did.

Sounds like a great time and I love those photos of Squirrel! Adorable! Oh how I’m really missing sushi… such a torture not being able to eat it during my last 6 months here!

Hmmm, not a sushi fan I’m afraid. But I totally want to eat Squirrel, she’s adorable. :)

I love sushi. If you are still in the Salt Lake area, I highly recommend going to Takashi’s. They are the best, you should try their Strawberry Fields roll.

Looks like a great lunch. I love eating with adventurous eaters, picky eaters make things so difficult sometimes!

How fun that you got to see KD! Thanks for posting. Can you send me her email or blog address to my email: [email protected] ? It brought back lots of memories to see you two together. Your daughters are so cute and you are looking great for just having a baby!

Japan may be a small country, but it offers an astounding variety of delectable dishes, from noodles to rice bowls to pancakes. While sushi may remain the most popular type of Japanese food in the West, there are many more avenues of rich Japanese cuisine to explore.

James– So true! I recently moved back to the US after having lived in Japan for a while and miss the rich variety of cuisine that was available. However, sushi is my favorite!
