I am currently sitting in the Delta Terminal of the L.A. airport trying to keep myself awake while I wait to board my flight to Salt Lake City, where I will rejoin my girls, Mr. Fuji (he had a separate flight home), and my in-laws. My trip to Tokyo was absolutely wonderful, albeit way too short. I wondered if it would still feel familiar, if it would still be “my Tokyo,” the Tokyo I came to know and love so well during the years that I lived there. I need not have worried. I had many moments where it was hard to believe that I had been gone for two years, as it felt like I had never left. Tokyo is such a unique mix of old and modern, of traditions and trends, and of quirky and odd. I already miss it. I just hope that I was able to fill up my reserves enough to last me until I am able to go back again.

Exactly! That is how I feel and what I miss about it. I haven’t been there in years…

I can see why you feel sentimental about Tokyo. It looks like a fascinating city. I look forward to seeing more photos!

I loved Tokyo as well, but I never saw the Bunny Guy. You lead an exciting life–glad you were able to go.

Dear Rachael!
Greetings!
Thank you so much for a good picture report and showing to the world the real face of Japan!
Definitely more interesting than a lot of inane reports from so-called “established” media!
Peopl will love you for that!
Best regards,
Robert-Gilles

UGH – thank you so much for these pictures!
I loved in a tiny town 45 minutes south of Tokyo for a summer in college, then returned for a week several years ago, and there is honestly not a day that goes by that I don’t think of it. Japan is truly infectious and I miss it so much!
Truly tickled to see that Yoshinoya sign in the crowded street picture. I gained about 7lbs on bowls of pure Yoshi heaven when I lived there!!

I’m feeling homesick for Tokyo. Jesse suggested he write up some grant proposals so we can go back! I never thought I’d hear him say that!

Fabulous pictures! I feel like you gave a little taste of everything with these. I’d love to see it some day, thanks for sharing! It’s a great feeling, albeit sometimes bittersweet, feeling like you can call two places “home”, isn’t it?
