Boroichi Finds & Holiday Swapping

in Uncategorized

This past Saturday I went out to the Setagaya Boroichi street market with Ms. M. This market is held every December 15th and 16th and January 15th and 16th. The market is a tradition that is now over 400 years old.

We had such a good time, and had some great finds. I was most excited about a set of Hinamatsuri dolls.

These dolls are normally very expensive, but I got an amazing deal on this set. The owner of an antique store, whose storefront opened out onto one of the main market streets was selling the dolls. I arranged with him to come back to the store on a non-market day to pick the dolls up in a car. When I went to pick the dolls up, the owner handed me the figurines that you see me holding in the picture below and told me they were a gift. Ms. M and I plan on going back to this store again in the future, as there were all kinds of other interesting things to buy.

Yesterday I finally got to make the gingerbread cookies that I’ve been craving! I decorated them with a simple royal icing and took them into work to share. Mmmm, they are so addicting.

The Tokyo Daytime SNB group held a Holiday Handmade Gift Exchange this holiday season! I just received my package today from the wonderful Ms. C. It had 2 adorable crocheted scrubbers, some gorgeous 4-leaf clover stitch markers, and a cute little notions bag–THANK YOU!!!

I can show you what I made for my person, as her package is now in the mail and she will soon know who I am. I designed this snowman bag:
