Sugar Rush

in Uncategorized

What are little girls made of, made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice, and everything nice,
That’s what little girls are made of.

excerpt from a popular nursery rhyme dating from the early nineteenth century

After the past week, I don’t know if I’m made of sugar, but I’m definitely filled with it! If I’m not careful I’m going to end up looking like this guy:
I have been dying to try one of Godiva’s Chocolixir drinks for some time now. Last week I was passing through Ebisu station and remembered that there is a Godiva shop in the Yebisu Garden Place, a shopping center above the station–how convenient!
I ordered the Dark Chocolate Decadence. I was tired from walking and so looking forward to enjoying what I thought would be rich yummy chocolaty goodness. Then I drew that first sip through the straw and . . . meh. I was not impressed. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special. It was boring and definitely not rich. Of course, because it was chocolate, I did drink the whole thing. Sigh. I have no self-control.

After such a disappointing chocolate encounter I decided to take one more chance and try out a type of cocoa that I hadn’t tried before. I had picked up some little individual serving size packets of Van Houten Cocoa Rich.

I mixed up a quick cup of chocolate, and this time was rewarded. It wasn’t the best cup of hot cocoa that I’ve ever had, but for an affordable quick option it was delicious–rich and not sicky sweet.A couple of days later I had a craving for caramel popcorn. My MIL makes WONDERFUL gooey caramel popcorn, but I couldn’t find her recipe and it was too late in the day to call her due to the time difference (how dare people be sleeping when I’m still awake!). Unable to stifle my craving, I got online and found a recipe and made up a quick batch.

Although it wasn’t my MIL’s caramel corn, it was still quite good. This recipe would especially be good if you have kids and need something quick that doesn’t make a ton. This recipe makes a crunchier caramel corn that my MIL’s wonderful gooey recipe, but I definitely still enjoyed it. Be forewarned that the calorie count on this one runs sky high! You can find the recipe here: RecipeZaar.

Finally, a few days ago I stopped at this establishment to pick up one of my favorite treats:

Any guesses on what I might have picked up?

Note to self: Read Fuji Mama’s blog BEFORE eating lunch, because I just had lunch but your posts often make me hungry again! ;0)

I’m glad to hear that someone else shares my love of sugar and that a few m&m’s won’t satisfy the craving.
I think I’m going to have to go eat some dark chocolate right now, even though I’m stuffed and just ate a brownie. Thanks a lot! If I don’t loose the pregnancy weight, I’m blaming you!

I guess I never imagined Japan as THE place to go for chocolate but I’m glad you got your fix. Now I’ve got to take care of the choco craving you passed on to me…
