Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie High

in Chocolate, Dessert, Pie

Did you know that this past Friday, May 15th, was National Chocolate Chip Day? I didn’t until I read an email from a family member Friday morning mentioning it. It was 72 years ago in 1937 that a woman named Ruth Graves Wakefield came up with the concept for chocolate chips. She was baking cookies and didn’t have one of the ingredients called for in her recipe, so she substituted chopped up chocolate bar bits, and the rest is history! I was not about to miss out on an opportunity to celebrate Ms. Wakefield’s genius idea, so I turned to a recipe I recently saw featured on Bakerella for Nestle’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie.
The pie is a cinch and is quick to whip up and smells amazing when it’s baking.
I highly recommend having someone else around when the pie comes out of the oven so you don’t end up like me, justifying “just one more bite in honor of Ms. Wakefield” about a thousand times.
Think gooey chocolate chip cookie in pie form. Yum.

If you have eaten all of this you are in big trouble. If you haven’t, please put a piece in the freezer for me.

There was a little diner-type restaurant near our church when we were kids that used to serve something like this… thanks for bringing back such a happy memory!

Emily– Who said you don’t HAVE to make it today? Do I need to “anonymously” call your house and inform your kids that this recipe exists? :-)

You know just what my weakness is. Yay…chocolate chip day and yay for Ruth Wakefield. Both are a sanity savers and should be honored. Hmmmm, I need some chocolate!

Haha! That's the bad thing about having a food blog. One has to make a lot of yummy things. I just started mine. I hope I don't gain too much weight in a year. This pie rocks! :)
