How To Sharpen a Knife With a Steel

in Tips & Tricks

Thanksgiving has come and gone and we’ve spent several days feasting on leftovers. But after all that turkey carving, chances are that your knives aren’t quite as sharp as they used to be.  No one wants to work with a dull knife, so as the next post in the LFM Knife Series I asked the guys at Ergo Chef if they’d give us some tips.  Paul Zweben made us this awesome video tutorial that explains how to sharpen your knives using a sharpening steel.  No more dull knives for us—thanks Paul!

My dad gave me a sharpening stone. I try to keep them sharp, but I’m not as good as he is at doing it. I should really use my sharpening steel more often too! Thanks Rachael, it’s on my to-do list!

Wonderful! I was thinking of having our knives professionally sharpened as a gift from Santa this year, but now I feel confident enough to go get a sharpening steel! Thanks Fuji Mama! PS Got the ManPan this weekend, I LOVE IT!

Rachael, very funny to see Paul Zweben in this video—he used to be a partner in a restaurant group I worked with here in NYC! Guess he’s been honing his skills with this new career (I couldn’t resist—sorry).

I just came back from Japan and got a couple SUPER SHARP knives. I have no idea how to sharpen them (I had cheap dull ones before!) so this will be very helpful. Thanks!
