Patron Mountain Strikes Again!

in Uncategorized

Today was a Fuji Day. Do you remember what happened on my last Fuji Day? The appearance of my patron mountain always seems to lift my spirits, and today was no exception. Today I also found new benefits to the presence of Fuji-san. Not only does my patron mountain put me into a good mood, but I think Fuji-san is a good luck charm!

I returned home from running some errands this morning to be greeted by not one, but TWO packages. The significance of these packages was that I won not one, but TWO contests!
The first was a contest held by Phoe of phoeknits. I won copies of The Orphan’s Tales: In The Night Garden (winner of the Tiptree Award) and just released In the Cities of Coin and Spice by the wonderfully talented Catherynne M. Valente. What is especially fun is that the first of the Orphan’s Tales books was actually written while Valente was living in Japan (as were a few others). I was also pleasantly surprised to find a sparkly pink beaded necklace in the package that Phoe made and included as an added bonus. THANK YOU PHOE!! I look forward to some good reading.

The second contest was one held by Melanie Gray Augustin, the owner of the blog My Life as a Gaijin, and the business Kimono Reincarnate. Melanie makes bags from gorgeous vintage kimono and obi fabrics. I won one of her bags! If you are looking for something special as a gift for someone or for yourself, you should check out her things, they are beautiful and beautifully made. THANK YOU MELANIE!!

I ended my day with a great meeting of SNB at the Pink Cow. We had a great group tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. There was another group meeting at the same time that was extremely noisy, and we had fun making semi-empty threats about the fact that we were all armed.
Such a lucky day deserves an auspicious color. So today I bring you a day spent capturing the color RED:

1.Umbrellas 2.Fire 3.Keys 4.Squirrel 5.Mail 6.Kokeshi 7.Leaves 8.Signs 9.Parking 10.Delivery scooter 11.Bank 12.Poinsettia

What did you do to win the contests? Was it a drawing, or did you have to submit a design for something? Enquiring minds want to know…

I’m glad it got there safely (and quickly!) I absolutely loved both books, I hope you do too.

A Japanese friend once told me that my forehead is shaped like Mt Fuji and thus, is lucky. I had no luck today though. Meh.

So glad you liked the bag!

I’m so jealous that you have a Stitch and Bitch group! There may be one in Nagoya, but certainly none in my little town. I miss my little creative cirlce.
