Chocolate avocado fudge might sound a bit strange, but it’s actually a genius idea, but one I can’t take the credit for. Pureed avocado is used in place of butter when making the fudge. The result is a rich and extremely creamy chocolate fudge—and no, you would never guess there was any avocado in it! I tasted chocolate avocado fudge for the first time a few months back when Mimi, my avocado sister, and I hosted an avocado adventure for a few fellow friends and bloggers. The group included Diane (Created By Diane), Laura (Family Spice), Allison (Sushi Day) and her boyfriend Son, and Kristen, my awesome sister-in-law who was visiting from Salt Lake City. We kicked off the day in Temecula with a tour of the Eco Farms avocado packing house.
We then drove to Fallbrook (known as the “Avocado Capital of the World”) to have lunch at The Wayside Cafe.
Mimi had specifically picked the cafe because they have a wonderful assortment of dishes that include avocado, as well as “avocado fries”—slices of avocado dipped in a batter and deep fried until the batter is golden, light and crispy. HEAVENLY.

After lunch we did a bit of window shopping before driving to Mimi’s ranch to walk through the avocado groves.

One of the things we saw in Fallbrook was Retro Candy and Toys, which was advertising avocado fudge.
How could we resist?

The day was perfect—lots of good food, avocados, beautiful scenery, and friends. After I got home I couldn’t stop thinking about that fudge, so I decided to come up with my own recipe. A few days later I received a box of goodies from Scharffen Berger chocolate as a thank you for being a panelist in a twitter chat they hosted.

Complete serendipity! I used some of the chocolate to dream up my own version of chocolate avocado fudge, and have to share the results!

This fudge tastes fancy and decadent, but in reality it is super easy to make! Just make sure that you use chocolate that you love, because the quality and taste of the chocolate you use is one of the keys to fudge that you will love. Scharffen Berger offered to send one of you your own box of goodies to play with, so check out the giveaway details after the recipe!

Chocolate Avocado Fudge
Makes about 60 pieces
1 pound bittersweet (or semisweet) chocolate, chopped
2 ounces ripe avocado, pureed
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon salt
1. Grease an 8 by 8-inch baking pan. Line the pan with a sheet of parchment paper, with the excess hanging over the sides. Set aside.
2. Heat all of the ingredients in a medium glass bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water (making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water), stirring until the chocolate has completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
3. Scrape the mixture with a spatula into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours.
4. Run a warm knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the fudge, then use the parchment paper to lift it out of the pan and on to a cutting board. Peel off the parchment paper and cut the fudge into 1-inch pieces. Store refrigerated in an airtight container.

Now if there was only a way for lactose free fudge for those of us who struggle with lactose intolerance! Using avocado is a step in the right direction…thanks for the recipe!
I simply adored chocolate-avocado shakes. Never had an avocado until two years ago when my roommate made a hash burrito topped with fresh avocado. So god! Now I eat these choc-avocado shakes every week to get my chocolate fix!
The prospect of winning chocolate will bring out a comment from me every time!
That looks great! I toss avocado in our smoothies and my husband can’t even tell!
What a brilliant idea. I’d never think to add that to fudge. I’ve also yet to try their chocolate, would be delighted to try it out.

These remind me of the chocolate-avocado mousse recipes I’ve been seeing lately, but way more appealing! Mousse is good, but FUDGE?! Yes, please! And I’ve got 3 avocados and a and a lonely can of sweetened condensed milk in my kitchen right now. Clearly, this is meant to be.
My friends see avo recipes and know to send ‘em my way — soo creamy and good and delicious! One of my favs! Love your creativity in this recipe — keep it coming and can’t wait to try! :)

You had me at fudge! I love how this is a much healthier alternative than traditional fudge. Even if I don’t win, I’m going to have to make these. :)
Avocados love them! I was raised in San Diego and never realized how spoiled I was until we moved to Colorado! I sure miss the easy availibility of delicious local avocados!
Avacodos. yes! Chocolate. You bet!

This recipe is so cool! It reminds me of a (much cooler version of a) smoothie I’ve made with avocado and cocoa powder.
Wow. I’ve never thought of that before, but it looks wonderful.

Nothing like chocolate to make the day much brighter!! Wow chocolate avocado fudge sounds delicious. I’m not an expert baker like some of you ladies, however I can’t wait to try it!
Whoa, totally awesome.
I’ve made something very similar before, and it was delicious. It just tasted like a gourmet fudge and you couldn’t taste the avocado at all. I highly recommend being open-minded and giving this a try.
was in need of a chocolate recipe for a picnic this weekend, need to try this
What an interesting idea! Sounds delicious :) But I wonder if the use of avocado means that it won’t last as long?
Weird enough that it just might work! Can’t wait to try it.
Chocolate and avocados? Does it get any better?!?I think not. I’d love to win this. :)
Making this right now! I am going to split the recipe in half because I don’t have a pound of chocolate in the cupboard. We’ll see!
Not a huge fudge fan, but maybe I’ll like it better w/avocado since I LOVE avocado.
I have heard of chocolate avocado pudding, but this fudge looks amazing. And, avocados are really really good for you! And dark chocolate is pretty good for you, too. I wonder, then, if dark chocolate avocado fudge is even better for you?
I’ve always been hesitant on used avocado with my desserts, but i just happen to receive an unexpected surplus in them. I’m running out of ideas what to do them! So I’m a definite chocoholic so this fudge seems a good place to start!
I’m very curious! Can’t wait to make it!
This sounds SO good and creamy. I’ll be trying it out as soon as I can.
Wayne has a vegan granddaughter that would love this. I’ll make it and share. And wouldn’t you know, I have two avocados in the fridge. You are a love.
